Project #202

Project #202

Before

A spacious corner unit built around 1970s, with little to no improvements since then. It was not well maintained and everything was original or “As Is” as they call it in real estate business ! Although over 1200 sqft with 3 large bedrooms and a big kitchen it was so closed up with partition-walls and wasted spaces that could have been used much more efficiently.

After

The end result was a huge corner unit with 2 large balconies and 3 bedrooms with properly located closets in harmony with the rest of the house. We turned the kitchen into an open, beautiful and white focal point with a huge counter-top that can be used as a dining area in the heart of the unit. Every possible single corner was turned into storage space, appliances such as W/D were thoughtfully relocated to where they don’t take much space and be easily accessible. Modern entertainment unit features an electric fire place and a mixture of tiles and woodwork. Although the ceiling was concrete, through a unique and creative design we managed to add as many as pot lights as possible. We installed a French door for the Master bedroom to advocate a sense of extra open space so to make the whole environment look more spacious.

Process

First we brought down most of the walls to see what the space really looked like ! We tried to turn to storage all not efficiently used spaces and make the unit as close to open concept as possible. French door for the master bedroom, new built-in closets, kitchen reconfiguration were our main ideas. A heavy design challenge was the existence of structural pipes in the kitchen wall, we couldn’t reroute or squeeze them, and at the same time keeping the wall would not make the kitchen fully open !!  On top of that, the concrete ceiling was making it very hard for us to design and install any light fixtures up there !!
