Project #PH11

Before

This corner Penthouse unit is exposed to a ton of natural sun light from both its balconies with unobstructed views overlooking North and West. Although some minor improvements were done on the kitchen in the past, there was still a huge room for more. Kitchen got almost zero natural light since it was in the back corner of the unit, it was also made small and with not enough storage space and no pantry. Carpet Floor, popcorn ceiling with no pot light or light fixtures. Plus a master bedroom closet area with not efficient his/hers closet space were part of what we were dealing with.

After

Our primary intention was to open up the kitchen to allow in as much natural light as possible and at the same time keep it functional and efficient with enough storage space. We split the laundry room into half to make room for a pantry close to the kitchen and squeezed the W/D in the other half. Brand new appliances, hexagon glossy back splash, quartz water fall counter top and abundance of natural light turned this kitchen info the shining heart of this penthouse. The unit is equipped with a central smart sound system with speakers in the ceiling almost everywhere. The floor is covered with extra large size European made laminate under the a galaxy of square pot lights on the uniquely designed ceiling. Bedrooms’ windows are covered with remotely controlled shades and with more than enough storage space. This penthouse is featured with distinctive designs that is nothing less that luxurious.

Process

The big question was what to do with that huge concrete column standing in the middle of everything and significantly limiting all our moves! Or how to compromise some space for the pantry? The unit’s ceiling was not solid concrete since it is a PH and hanging the glass door was a real engineering challenge since we had to build a support attached to the real structural ceiling 2 feet above. Glass doors are heavy and demand a load bearing truss to hold their weight and keep then up ! High ceiling makes it possible to apply some nice features on it. We wanted to add a wall unit that not only is aesthetically appealing, but also would have some complementary storage space. We basically removed all the walls everywhere, for instance we had to remove the adjacent wall to the kitchen and push it a feet away to make the kitchen bigger.
